Style Guide

Discover the perfect jacket and do’s and don’ts of how to wear one
Our newest guide highlights four essential fit points to ensure you achieve the perfect tailored jacket every time.

The collar and back

Proper Fit

The jacket collar should rest naturally against the shirt collar, with no visible tension or gaps between them.

What to Avoid:

A collar that's too tight or too loose will cause unsightly creases and bunching around the neck and shoulders.

The Shoulder

Correct Fit

The shoulder of the jacket should rest smoothly along the natural curve of your shoulder, with no overhang. If the shoulder fits well, the jacket is likely the right base size. .

What to Avoid

If the fit is too tight, it will stretch the fabric, causing creases and limiting movement. If too loose, excess fabric will appear, and the shoulder seam will fall below your shoulder line.

The Waist

Correct Fit

To prevent a boxy or ill-fitting appearance, the jacket should taper slightly at the waist, creating a clean and defined silhouette.

What to Avoid:

An incorrect fit loses definition. A waist that’s too loose can be tailored easily, but if it feels too tight, consider sizing up before alterations.

Jacket Length

Correct Fit

No matter your style preference, the golden rule for length remains: the hem of your jacket should just cover your bottom for a balanced fit.

What to Avoid:

If the jacket hem sits above your rear, it's too short. If it falls significantly past your bottom, it will appear oversized and baggy.

Sleeve Length

Correct Fit

Your jacket sleeves should end just above the wrist, where your thumb bone meets your wrist, leaving about half an inch (1.5 cm) of your shirt sleeve exposed for a polished look.

What to Avoid

If too much or none of the shirt cuff is visible, the jacket sleeves should be altered to achieve the ideal length.
